Dear friends and family,
Firstly, we wanted to let you know we made it safely to NY (and had lots of bonding and fellowship along the way)! We are at Next Step, an international organization whose motto is: where short term mission trips collide with long term community developments. There have been groups coming all summer, so we will be continuing the work they have started and planting more seeds in the hearts of community members.
Tonight, we discussed the importance of being a humble servant, a fervent listener, a zealous developer, and a discontent ambassador (seeing the situation for what it is but not being discouraged or sad, but instead fighting and praying). We also had the privilege of joining in worship with the staff and other two youth groups who are here and singing about God “burning bright like a star” in our hearts and lives & “taking us from our place of comfort” to where He wants us to be, our prayer as we go out to our respective worksites tomorrow.
Tomorrow, 7 groups will go out to different sites to do the work of the Lord- our youth group makes up 3 of the groups. The first group will paint a church and construct some shelves. The second group will gut a kitchen, and gut & seal a basement. The third group will help empty out a house, demo a wall (!), and then rebuild it.
Please pray for our hearts to be open to what God is going to teach us, the hearts of the community members to be open to the gospel, team unity, relationships we will build with community members, for us learn more about God and see Him at work, and the other two teams who are here.
We thank you for following our journey as we have the opportunity to be a small part of God’s plan for the people of Long Island. We CANNOT WAIT to jump right in and get started with our projects tomorrow!
