Panama Week Two: Friday, 1/24

Posted by Team Leader on

The last full day of children’s Bible camp in Chame, Panama always comes too quickly. Once again it was a jam packed day with the daily Bible teaching, singing (and dancing to) the songs that have now become favorites of each kid and grown-up, enjoying yummy food (Blanca is amazing in the kitchen - cooking for three hundred people in a hot kitchen and it’s always delicious), cooling off in the pool, and basically enjoying this beautiful place with newfound friends.

Friday also has some special events! A highlight of the week is the Friday testimony service.  The kids have the opportunity to get up in front of their peers and share how they encountered God this week.  It can be a little scary but wanting to tell others about their love for Jesus definitely gave them courage.  It’s beautiful to see a long line of children testifying of God’s goodness and their decision to accept Christ and ask Him to take control of their lives.  God’s Spirit has touched these children and they are responding with a great big, “Yes, Lord!” Your prayers are being answered!

A special thank you to all those who donated clothing.  We gave away over 900 pieces of clothing today!!  The kids had so much fun choosing outfits and many wore them the rest of the day.  Cleats are especially popular and the joy on their faces when the cleats fit is priceless.  We had enough clothing for the crew (teenagers who clean the dishes, bathrooms, dining area and basic grunt work all week and have fun while doing it!) and the counselors.

Good thing the camp has such a big pool! After general swim (with all 183 campers in the pool at once), music and much fanfare announced the “Agua Pufa” games. The staff planned fun (and a bit challenging) water races - and whether in the pool competing or sitting on the edge of the pool cheering, everybody enjoyed the friendly competition.

And just in case we didn’t have enough fun already, the day ended with the carnival, complete with simple games, jumpy houses, cotton candy, popcorn and prizes.  The kids are sure to sleep on the way home tomorrow!

Praises - The children have clearly heard the gospel message of Christ this week.  So many of them have made decisions to accept Christ or rededicate their lives to Him.

Prayer Requests - Please pray that the children will continue to grow in their walk with Jesus, that as they go home they will get involved in a Bible Club and that they will be a witness to their families and friends. -Julie

Thanks for all these daily blog posts. They are helpful to understand what has been happening at Camp.

Praying for safe travel home, for the work of the Spirit with the seeds that have been planted, and for smooth re-entry.

Thank you to the Team for your sacrifice of time and effort to make this week happen. God bless.

And he who waters will himself be watered." Prov 11:25
