Panama 2020 Week Two: Sunday 1/19!

Posted by Team Leader on

Winding down from a semi-laid-back day, we started off with a slow-paced morning at the hotel we were at from last night by the airport.  We were able to spend time in devotion together before our ride was available to bring us to camp (2 hours away) and it was a blessing for us. We were discussing what it means to “be missional.”  We were drawn to the Great Commandment:

““Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.””‭‭ —Matthew‬ ‭22:36-40‬

Love God. Love others.  How can this be done without dying to self? We have come to serve.  Kiddos, kitchen crew, volunteers, counselors, missionaries, our own teammates, and everyone in between.  We don’t fully know where each day will have us serving, but our greatest desire is that we pour out Christ’s love in us into the people around us here.   Setting down our own expectations and being ready for anything.  Knowing the Lord has led us here and used many loving supporters as provision to get us here for such a time as this, we pray that the Lord can use ordinary people like us to show His love.  By His love pouring out from us, He is glorified.  That’s our mission: to make Him famous and see His Kingdom build!

More day’s activity updates- we managed to get almost all of our bags unloaded and sorted, most of them being clothing for the kids- we are so excited for them to receive these clothes and shoes! We are truly blown away by the generous donations given for this camp season.  We got to stop at Lesli’s house, a woman who cares for 4 boys that came out of the “transition home” many years ago.  It is so cool for my fellow teammates to see these kids grow through the years.  We even got to see a special visitor, Santiago, that moved away to Costa Rica years ago as he was in town for a short visit.  Perfect timing!

Praises: We get to know that He goes before us! Growth in team unity today- couldn’t be more thankful for this crew! Meeting Word of Life team! Divine appointments.

Prayer requests: Please continue to pray for that flight attendant mentioned in yesterday’s blog.  Please pray for our energy and for supernatural sustenance throughout each day.  Please pray for our minds, hearts, and eyes to be fixed on Jesus.  Please continue to pray for the kids safety and health (and the team’s).  Please pray for more counselors to come and help, we are projected to have a full house of 200 kids this week and need more help!
