Ten Commandments (Part 4)

Exodus 19:1-31:18

The Law constantly reminds us of:

  • Our sinfulness
  • Our need for a Savior
  • Our need for God’s enabling power to obey

 

  • Basis: Grace
  • Means: Faith
  • Object: Jesus

Commandments 1-4: Reverence for God

Commandments 5-10: Respect for Others

Command #9: You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor (Exodus 20:16).

  1. Lying is in direct opposition to the character of God.
  1. God despised lying.
  1. Lying is futile.
  1. Lying harms others.
  1. The “Liar” cannot be a true believer.

The Family of Lies

  • Slander
  • Gossip
  • Flattery
  • Half-truths
  • Silent Lie
  • Hypocrisy
  • False Profession

Command # 10: You shall not covet (Exodus 20:17)

  1. You shall not covet you neighbor’s possessions.
  1. You shall not covet your neighbor’s spouse.
  1. You shall not covet your neighbor’s position.
  1. You shall not covet your anything that belongs to your neighbor.

Be content with who you are and what you have.

Series Information

Since the very beginning, God has been a faithful provider for his people, giving them all that they need to live each day. Thousands of years later, he is still providing for us in the same way.
