Founded in 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission is a nonprofit, non-denominational Christian organization providing food, shelter and a life transforming recovery program designed to help people rebuild their lives.

The Mission was originally known as Harbor of Hope, and served as a refuge for transient men. Eventually, recovery programs and services were expanded to include women and children.

In 1979, the Mission purchased several buildings on Pittsburgh's North Side. Today, emergency shelter and men's residential programming take place at 10 E. North Avenue. The recovery program for women and children is held at another North Side facility. Finally, an apartment building on Tripoli Street houses up to twelve men for extended care services.

The Pregnancy Resource Center of the South Hills is a limited medical facility that has been serving the community since 1990. Adopt-a-Family

SHBC is again partnering with the Pregnancy Resource Center this Christmas to bring the love of Jesus Christ to families in need through our "Adopt-a-Family" program. We are looking for SHBC families or groups (small groups, ABF’s, huddle groups, etc.) to "adopt" families in our area by providing gifts and other necessities. If you would like to participate, please contact Tim Hannan at (412) 874-0172 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. PRISM (Pittsburgh Regional International Student Ministries)

PRISM introduces International Students to Christ, while meeting the tangible, social and spiritual needs of students.

Friendship Partners, holiday hosting and weekly dinners are just some of the ways you can be a part of this dynamic ministry. . There have been some great stories of how these friendships are developing. Please share your stories – they are such an encouragement to all of us. If anyone would like to partner with Karen Werner in SHBC's involvement with PRISM, it would be wonderful to have help! More details can be found at www.prismpgh.org or contact the SHBC PRISM Coordinator, Karen Werner, at 724-942-3545 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Washington City Mission

The Washington City Mission has been serving the homeless and poor of this region since 1941. The world around us has changed dramatically over the past 62 years. From those early days when streetcars ran in Washington City, steel provided employment for the valley and glass plants abounded, so much has changed.

Washington City Donation Information
SHBC is a donation drop-off for Washington City Mission. You may leave your gently used clothing (no rips, tears, stains, etc.) and household goods (unbroken, in good working condition, etc.) in the clothing collection box on the sidewalk at the escalator entrance to the Worship Center. Please carefully consider your choices as the Mission spends a good deal of money disposing of items that cannot be reused or sold. Click here for more information.

If you have donated items for the WCM and would like a charitable contribution receipt, you may pick one up at the Information Desk in the Main Lobby. The yellow copy of this receipt needs to be mailed to the WCM once the form is completed.
